IT - La Torre fu realizzata nel 1889, su progetto dell’illustre architetto Luigi Gugliotta, il quale, dopo un lungo e acceso dibattito cittadino, ne propose l’inserimento tra i due palazzi ottocenteschi delle famiglie borghesi Santacroce e Sipione.
Dietro al quadrante si trova posizionata la macchina dell’orologio realizzata dalla premiata ditta  Sommaruga di Milano, il cui carillon, detto in gergo anche cento colpi, un tempo veniva regolato alle ore quattro per suggerire la sveglia ai braccianti.
In cima alla Torre è visibile l’Armatura o Castello, che regge due campane attraverso le quali i martelli riproducono il suono delle ore e dei minuti. All’apice dell’armatura svetta la banderuola dei venti nella quale è incisa la data 1889, per ricordare l’anno della sua costruzione.
Gli abitanti di Rosolini, ancora oggi, con il termine Ciccannina, usano attribuire, indistintamente, il nome sia all’orologio, sia al suono che proviene dallo stesso.
L’orologio comunale con i suoi 868 colpi giornalieri, scandisce la vita dei rosolinesi da più di un secolo.

EN - The Tower was built in 1889, accordingly to the project made by the illustrious architect Luigi Gugliotta. After a long and heated debate in the city, the Tower was proposed to be placed between the two nineteenth-century palaces of the bourgeois families of Santacroce and Sipione.
Behind its dial there is the clock machine made by the award-winning company of Sommaruga of Milan. The clock carillon, also called “a hundred strokes in jargon”, was once set at four o'clock to suggest the alarm to the labourers.
The top of the Tower is decorated with  the Armor or Castle that holds two bells which produce the sound by their hammers.
 At the apex of the armor stands the wind vane with the engraved date of 1889 to commemorate the year of the Tower construction.
The inhabitants of Rosolini, even today, use the term Ciccannina to attribute, without distinction, the name to both the clock and the sound that comes from it.
The municipal clock with its 868 daily strikes has marked the life of people of Rosolini for more than a century now.
